Where in Dubai
Dr. Subhash sees sports injuries at Grand Infinity Medical Center in Al Muteena, Deira, next to the Grand Excelsior Hotel. Call or WhatsApp the clinic and say it is a new injury. Bring any X-rays or MRI you already have. If an operation is needed, he tells you which hospital it will be in and what your insurer needs.
What is sports injury care?
Sports injuries happen in football, padel, running, the gym and everyday play. Most are sprains and strains, where a ligament or muscle is stretched or partly torn, and they settle with rest, ice and exercises. Some need an orthopedic surgeon: a torn ACL or meniscus in the knee, a dislocated shoulder or torn labrum, a rotator cuff tear, a broken bone, or a torn tendon in the hand. The aim is to find out exactly what is damaged, treat it with the least surgery that will work, and guide a gradual return to sport without re-injury.
Who it can help
- A knee that twisted, popped and swelled, or now gives way.
- A shoulder that dislocated or feels loose, weak or painful overhead.
- A suspected broken bone, such as a wrist after a fall.
- A finger that cannot bend or straighten after a ball or a fall.
- Pain that has not settled after two to three weeks of rest and simple care.
How Dr. Subhash approaches it
Arthroscopy and trauma are among Dr. Subhash's stated main interests. For sports injuries, his work includes keyhole knee surgery (meniscus repair, ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair) and keyhole shoulder surgery (rotator cuff, labrum and capsular repair, AC joint), fracture and dislocation treatment, and hand tendon repair. Most sports injuries do not need an operation, and he explains when physiotherapy is the right first step.
What to expect
Early care
For the first two to three days: rest, ice wrapped in a towel, gentle compression and raising the limb. Avoid heavy training.
Assessment
He asks how the injury happened, examines the joint and checks its stability. X-rays or an MRI are arranged when needed.
A plan
He explains what is damaged and the options, from physiotherapy to keyhole surgery, and how long each takes.
Treatment
Physiotherapy, a brace or sling, or surgery, depending on the injury and your sport.
Return to sport
He reviews your progress and agrees with you and your physiotherapist when you are ready for each stage.
Recovery, in general terms
Every patient is different. These are typical milestones, not a promise; your own plan comes from your consultation.
- Most sprains and strains improve within two to six weeks.
- Simple broken bones typically take six to eight weeks to heal.
- Keyhole meniscus trimming usually allows sport after about six weeks.
- ACL reconstruction and shoulder stabilisation typically need six to twelve months before full contact sport.
When to book a visit
Book a visit if a joint keeps giving way, locks, or is still painful and swollen after two to three weeks. Go to an emergency department now if a limb looks deformed, you cannot bear weight, or a hand or foot is numb, cold or pale.

Questions patients ask
Should I train outdoors in the summer while I recover?
It is wiser to do rehabilitation indoors in the hottest months. Heat and dehydration make muscles tire sooner, which raises the chance of another strain. Drink water before, during and after exercise.
Should I see a doctor or just rest?
Many minor sprains settle with rest and simple care. See a doctor if you heard a pop, the joint swelled quickly, it gives way, or it is not clearly better after two to three weeks.
Should I use heat or ice after an injury?
Use ice, wrapped in a towel, for the first two to three days to limit swelling. Avoid heat, hot baths and massage in that early period, because they can increase swelling.
Do I need surgery to get back to sport?
Usually not. Most sports injuries recover with physiotherapy. Surgery is considered for injuries that do not heal on their own, such as some ACL, meniscus, labrum and tendon tears, or an unstable fracture.
