Deformity correction and limb reconstruction in Dubai

Straightening bent bones and fixing breaks that healed badly.

Where in Dubai

Deformity and non-union cases need careful measurement, so bring every earlier X-ray, scan and operation note to Grand Infinity Medical Center in Al Muteena, Deira. Many patients in Dubai were first treated in another country. Records from abroad help, even if they are in another language. If surgery is advised, he tells you which hospital it will be in and what your insurance needs.

What is deformity correction and limb reconstruction?

A limb deformity is a bone or joint that is bent, twisted or out of line. Some people are born with it, some develop it as they grow, and some get it after a fracture heals in the wrong position (a malunion). A non-union is a broken bone that has not healed at all. Deformities can strain the joints above and below, cause pain, and change how you walk. Correction usually means an osteotomy: the surgeon cuts the bone in a planned place, moves it into a better line, and holds it with a plate, a nail or an external frame while it heals.

Who it can help

  • Knock knees or bow legs that are severe, one-sided, or have not corrected with growth.
  • An elbow that has healed bent after a childhood fracture (cubitus varus or valgus).
  • A leg or foot that turns in or out too far, or a hip with an abnormal angle (coxa vara).
  • A fracture that has not healed months after the injury, or has healed crooked or short.
  • Pain or uneven wear in a joint caused by a bone that is out of line.

How Dr. Subhash approaches it

Dr. Subhash lists deformity correction and limb reconstruction on his CV. This covers knock knees, bow legs, cubitus varus and valgus at the elbow, coxa vara at the hip, rotational deformities, and bones that have not healed (non-union) or healed out of line (malunion). He also lists corrective osteotomies within his paediatric work. He measures the deformity on long-leg X-rays or scans, explains the plan, and talks through how long healing is likely to take.

What to expect

  1. Assessment

He examines how you stand and walk, measures the limb and studies the X-rays. A CT scan may be needed to measure a twist.

  2. Planning

He works out where to cut and how far to move the bone, and explains how it will be held while it heals.

  3. Discussion

He explains the expected benefit, the risks and the recovery time, so you and your family can decide.

  4. The operation

The bone is cut, realigned and fixed. For a non-union, he may also add bone graft to help it heal.

  5. Healing and follow-up

Regular X-rays show the bone knitting. Weight-bearing is increased step by step as healing allows.

Recovery, in general terms

Every patient is different. These are typical milestones, not a promise; your own plan comes from your consultation.

  • Bone usually takes about two to four months to heal after an osteotomy, longer in adults and for a non-union.
  • Crutches or a walking frame are common for the first weeks after a leg operation.
  • Physiotherapy helps keep nearby joints moving and builds strength.
  • Plates or frames may be removed later, once the bone is solid.

Risks to know about

  • The bone may heal slowly or not at all, and may need further surgery.
  • Infection, especially around the pins of an external frame, which needs daily care.
  • The correction may not be exactly as planned, or a small deformity may come back with growth.
  • Nerve or blood vessel irritation from moving the bone, which is usually temporary.

When to book a visit

Book a visit if a limb looks bent, twisted or short, or if a fracture is still painful months later. Seek care quickly for redness, discharge or fever around a frame or wound after surgery.

Questions patients ask

My first operation was done outside the UAE. Can he still help?

Yes, you can book a consultation. Bring the operation notes, implant details if you have them, and all X-rays. These show what was done and help plan any correction. Ask the first hospital for copies if you do not have them.

Can bow legs or knock knees be corrected in adults?

Yes, in many cases. In adults it is done with an osteotomy, since there is no growth left to guide. Whether it is advised depends on how severe the deformity is and whether it causes pain or joint wear.

My fracture healed crooked years ago. Is it too late to fix?

Often it is not too late. A malunion can usually be corrected by re-cutting the bone and fixing it in a better position. Your X-rays and symptoms decide whether that is worthwhile.

How long will I be off work after deformity surgery?

It varies widely. After an arm operation, desk work may resume within weeks. After a leg osteotomy or non-union surgery, it can be two to four months or longer. He gives you an estimate for your case.
