Bone and soft-tissue tumours in Dubai

Assessment and surgery for lumps and tumours in bone and muscle.

Where in Dubai

Patients with a bone lump or a worrying X-ray can book a consultation at Grand Infinity Medical Center in Al Muteena, Deira. Bring every scan and report, including CDs of MRI or CT images from other Dubai centres. MRI and biopsy usually need insurance pre-approval in Dubai. He explains which tests are needed and why, so the approval request is clear.

What is bone and soft-tissue tumours?

A tumour is a lump of abnormal cells. Most tumours found in bone are benign, which means they are not cancer and do not spread. Some are found by chance on an X-ray taken for another reason. Others cause pain, swelling or a fracture through weakened bone. A small number are malignant. Cancer that starts in bone or soft tissue (a sarcoma) is rare. Cancer that has spread to bone from somewhere else, such as the breast or prostate, is more common in adults. Orthopaedic oncology covers the diagnosis of these lumps and the surgery to remove them and rebuild the limb.

Who it can help

  • Bone pain that is getting worse, is worse at night, and is not linked to an injury.
  • A lump in a limb that is growing, is larger than a golf ball, or is deep in the muscle.
  • A bone that broke after very little force.
  • A bone cyst or tumour found on an X-ray, needing a specialist opinion.

How Dr. Subhash approaches it

Dr. Subhash lists orthopaedic oncology on his CV: benign and malignant bone tumours, and limb salvage and reconstruction, which means removing a tumour while keeping the arm or leg. He arranges the imaging needed to understand the lump before any biopsy. He explains clearly what the scans show and what is not yet known. When a tumour may be cancer, care involves other specialists too, and he explains who they are and what happens next.

What to expect

  1. Consultation

He asks about the pain or lump, examines you and reviews any X-rays. Bring all earlier images and reports.

  2. Imaging

An X-ray is often followed by an MRI or CT scan, which shows the size and type of the lump.

  3. Biopsy, if needed

A small sample of the lump is taken and examined under a microscope. Planning where it is taken matters for any later surgery.

  4. Treatment plan

Many benign lumps are only watched. Others are scraped out and filled with bone graft or cement. Cancer care is planned with cancer specialists.

  5. Surveillance

Follow-up scans check that a lump has not grown or come back.

Recovery, in general terms

Every patient is different. These are typical milestones, not a promise; your own plan comes from your consultation.

  • After a small benign tumour is removed, many people walk with support within days.
  • Bigger operations that rebuild a bone or joint need several months of rehabilitation.
  • Weight-bearing is increased step by step as the bone or graft heals.
  • Follow-up scans continue for months or years, depending on the tumour type.

When to book a visit

Book a visit for bone pain that is worse at night or keeps getting worse, or a lump that is growing. If a weakened bone breaks, or you cannot bear weight, go to an emergency department first.

Questions patients ask

Do I need a referral to see him about a bone lump in Dubai?

Whether you need a referral depends on your insurance plan. Check with your insurer, or ask the clinic when you book. Bring any referral letter and earlier reports you already have.

Is every bone tumour cancer?

No. Most bone tumours are benign. Many are found by chance and only need to be watched. A specialist reviews the X-ray and, if needed, an MRI or biopsy to tell the types apart.

Why do I need an MRI before a biopsy?

The scan shows the size and position of the lump and its relation to nerves and vessels. This guides where the biopsy needle goes and keeps options open for any later operation.

What is limb salvage surgery?

It means removing a tumour while keeping the arm or leg. The missing bone may be rebuilt with a bone graft, metal implant or special joint replacement. Whether it suits you depends on the tumour and where it is.
